Recognizing that individuals can experience significant stress and emotional distress following unexpected adverse weather conditions, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka implemented a series of mental health support initiatives to address the psychological impact of the recent floods.
A mental health support program was conducted at Mahasen Vidyalaya, Rajanganaya, under the supervision of Prof. Amila Isuru, Consultant Psychiatrist at Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, with the support of the Medical Students’ Union. The program aimed to provide emotional guidance, stress-relief strategies, and psychological first aid to help affected individuals to cope with post-disaster challenges.
Another mental health support camp was organized at Mahinda Primary College, in collaboration with the Anuradhapura Royal Leo Club and the Rajarata University Medical Students’ Union. Alongside mental health services, essential medications for various health issues and antibiotics to prevent leptospirosis were distributed to the community.
Prof. Amila Isuru, together with a dedicated team of compassionate doctors, extended their fullest cooperation to ensure the program’s success, offering a much-needed helping hand during this difficult and challenging period.
