The workshop aimed to enhance awareness among university academics on key aspects of Intellectual Property Rights and to strengthen their practical knowledge of the patenting process. The initiative focused on supporting researchers in safeguarding innovative research outcomes and contributing to national development. Academic staff members representing all six faculties joined for the session.
The program covered several key areas, including an introduction to Intellectual Property, the patenting procedure, drafting patent applications (with emphasis on claim writing), conducting prior art searches, and completing patent application forms.
The sessions were conducted by resource persons from NIPO: Mr. Nalinda Atapaththu, Assistant Director (Information & Examination), Patent & Industrial Design Division, and Mr. Lakshan Gunasinghe, Patent Examiner, Patent & Industrial Design Division. Their expert guidance provided participants with valuable insights into protecting and commercializing research innovations.
