Professor P. M. B. Jayathilake formally assumed duties as the 8th Vice Chancellor of the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka at a ceremonial event held on 16 March 2026 at the Office of the Vice Chancellor.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished members of the University community, including members of the University Council, Deans of Faculties, the Librarian, the Registrar,  Heads of Departments, Directors of Centres, and representatives of the academic, administrative, and non-academic staff and representatives of the university trade unions.

Prof. Jayathilake is an alumnus of the Faculty of Management Studies of the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka and holds the distinction of being the first Vice Chancellor of the University appointed from among its alumni. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies at the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka.

In his address at the ceremony, Prof. Jayathilake expressed his sincere gratitude to the University community for the trust placed in him. He emphasised the importance of collaboration and collective commitment in advancing the University’s mission and in elevating the institution to new heights of academic excellence.
