The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) held the Youth Environment Assembly on 29–30 November in Nairobi, where Mr. Jayasanka Sandun Jayasuriya, a fourth-year student of the Department of Environmental Management, represented Sri Lanka. His selection marks the first time a Sri Lankan university student has participated in this global youth forum, bringing notable recognition to Rajarata University.
He also joined the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-07) beginning on 01 December. Addressing international delegates, he highlighted that youth serve not only as future leaders but as active contributors to today’s environmental solutions. He later shared further insights at a special side session on youth roles in environmental policy and climate action.
During the Assembly, H.E. Johanna Lissinger-Peitz, Swedish Ambassador to Kenya and President of COP7, held a discussion with him to review his COP30 youth speech and explore ongoing environmental initiatives.
Rajarata University proudly congratulates Mr. Jayasuriya for bringing global recognition to the University and for his continued dedication to environmental leadership.
