Rajarata University of Sri Lanka Welcomes the 2024/2025 Intake (VX) of External BSc Degree Students in Biological and Physical Sciences

The Faculty of Applied Sciences of Rajarata University of Sri Lanka ceremonially inaugurated the 15th batch of students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science External Degree Programmes in Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences on 25th March 2026 at the University’s Main Auditorium. The event marked a significant milestone in the Faculty’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to quality higher education.
The ceremony was held under the patronage of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. P. M. B. Jayathilaka, and was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Dr. Manoj Fernando; Director of the Centre for Distance and Continuing Education (CDCE), Prof. W. P. Wijewardena; Programme Coordinator, Prof. T. V. Sundarabarathy; Heads of Departments; members of the academic staff; the Registrar, Ms. S. C. Herath; and the Senior Assistant Registrar (CDCE), Mr. W. M. K. Upuldeniya.
The event was conducted in a hybrid format, with approximately 50 students participating virtually via Zoom. The programme commenced with a welcome address by the Dean, Dr. Manoj Fernando, followed by an inspiring address by the Vice Chancellor, who encouraged the new entrants to pursue their academic journey with dedication and perseverance. A key highlight of the ceremony was the official launch of the programme website by the Vice Chancellor, showcasing the distinctive features and academic strengths of the degree programmes. The formal proceedings concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. W. M. G. A. S. T. B. Wijetunga, Chairperson of the Board of Study in BSc Biological Sciences.
Following the inauguration, an orientation session was conducted to familiarise students with key aspects of the degree programmes. Prof. T. V. Sundarabarathy, Academic Coordinator of the External Degree Programmes, delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the online learning process and the overall programme structure.
An introductory session on the Learning Management System (LMS) was conducted by Dr. C. A. Thotawattage, Chairperson of the Board of Study in BSc Physical Sciences. The session provided guidance on system access, navigation, and the range of courses offered, with valuable contributions from subject matter experts representing the respective disciplines.
The successful organisation of the event was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the organising committee, led by the Secretary, Ms. M. S. V. Senevirathna, together with the staff of the External Degree Programme Unit and the Faculty. Their commitment and coordination ensured a smooth and meaningful inauguration ceremony.
