Commercialization of Modified Perumkayam Herbal Soap

Rajarata University of Sri Lanka signed two licence agreements with L.B. Kangara Aushadhalaya (Pvt) Limited on 21st January 2026 to commercialize two newly modified Perumkayam herbal soap varieties, developed in response to industry requirements.
The signing ceremony was held at the University premises and was graced by the esteemed presence of Dr. H.P.G. Janaka Pushpakumara, Acting Vice Chancellor of Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, and Mr. K.M.P.M. Kangara, Managing Director of L.B. Kangara Aushadhalaya (Pvt) Limited.
The modified products—Perumkayam Herbal Soap (Wild Turmeric Added) and Perumkayam Herbal Soap (Fragrance Added)— were developed through a collaborative effort between the Faculty of Management Studies and the Faculty of Technology of Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. These soaps are rich in antioxidants and have a high Total Fatty Matter (TFM) content, ensuring superior quality and enhanced skin benefits.
The project was led by Professor Manoj Samarathunga, with scientific enhancements and formulation improvements provided by Dr. Asha Wijegunawardana. The successful modification and licensing of these products highlight the University’s commitment to industry collaboration, innovation, and the effective commercialization of research outputs.
The event was attended by Dr. H.P.G. Janaka Pushpakumara, Acting Vice Chancellor of Rajarata University of Sri Lanka; Mr. K.M.P.M. Kangara, Managing Director of L.B. Kangara Aushadhalaya (Pvt) Limited; Prof. P.M.B. Jayathilaka, Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies; Dr. N.D. Asha Wijegunawardana, Director of the University Business Linkage Cell; Prof. Manoj Samarathunga, Principal Investigator of the research project, Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Faculty of Management Studies; and academic members representing various faculties of the University.
