The International Research Forum on Ancient Water Management Systems in Sri Lanka: Integrating Traditional Knowledge for Sustainable Development was held on March 11, 2025, at the Mihintale premises of Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. It was organized by the Department of Archaeology & Heritage Management, Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities.
This unique forum brought together a diverse group of scholars, experts, and students to explore Sri Lanka’s ancient irrigation heritage and its relevance to sustainable development today. The event was graced by Dr. P.H.G. Janaka Pushpakumara, Acting Vice-Chancellor of RUSL, as Chief Guest. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Dr. Wiebke Bebermeier from Freie University, Berlin.
The forum featured compelling presentations by leading academics and professionals. It fostered interdisciplinary dialogue and emphasized the integration of traditional knowledge with modern practices to support sustainability and heritage-based tourism in Sri Lanka.
