Aluth Avurudu 2025 – A Festival of Joy and Togetherness

The Art Council of Rajarata University of Sri Lanka proudly organized a vibrant and culturally rich celebration to mark the Sinhala and Hindu New Year (Aluth Avurudu), bringing together the university community in a spirit of unity, tradition, and festivity. This colourful event was held on 06th April 2025 at the university premises.
The event showcased the diverse cultural heritage of Sri Lanka, symbolizing new beginnings, reconciliation, and shared values. The university premises came alive with traditional Avurudu decorations, music, and games that reflected the essence of both Sinhala and Tamil New Year customs.
The program featured a variety of traditional Avurudu games (Avurudu Kreeda), including Kotta Pora, Kana Mutti Bindeema, and musical chairs, as well as cultural performances such as dance, drumming, and singing, presented by talented students from various faculties.
The Art Council’s efforts not only created a joyful and engaging atmosphere but also reinforced the values of cultural harmony, inclusivity, and national identity. The event was a true reflection of unity in diversity, reminding all participants of the importance of togetherness in celebration.
