Rajarata University of Sri Lanka commemorated the sacred occasion of Poson Poya with a serene and spiritually enriching celebration held on 9th June 2025, ahead of the official Poya day. This significant event marks the arrival of Arahant Mahinda and the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka—a historic milestone that took place in Mihintale, located near the university.
The celebration included a dansala (alms giving), graciously organized by the university staff, where food was freely offered, and beautifully crafted Vesak lanterns and symbolic artwork depicting the momentous arrival of Buddhism, creating an atmosphere of peace and devotion.
Mihidu Perahera, a vibrant cultural procession in Mihintale too added colour and reverence to the celebration. The procession showcased elements of traditional Sri Lankan Buddhist heritage, drawing the attention and appreciation of the university community.
The Poson celebration fostered spiritual awareness, cultural unity, and mutual respect among all participants. It served as a poignant reminder of the enduring values of peace, compassion, and harmony that continue to guide and inspire Sri Lankan society.
