The Faculty of Applied Sciences, in conformity with the vision of the RUSL envisions “to be a dynamic, innovative and renowned center of excellence in learning, research, training and consultancy with emphasis on national relevance and international recognition in the different disciplines of Applied Sciences”. Its mission is “to promote learning, research and training among all members of the university, industry and community and to help individuals achieve their full potential through development of the whole person with a view to making significant contributions to the regional, national and global needs”.
The faculty is committed to its main objective of producing quality graduates with academic knowledge and vocational skills, who will meet the challenges required by recent global scientific developments in the country. Hence, one of the primary strategies of the faculty is to develop a system to produce skilled graduates with wide social exposure in the field of applied sciences. Enhancement of English and computer literacy and the establishment of a career guidance unit are other strategies that complement the above primary strategy to achieve the said objective.
The FASc consists of two departments; Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences. The Department of Biological Sciences offers courses in the fields of Botany, Zoology, Biology and Health Promotion. While the department of Physical Science offers courses in the fields of Computer Science, Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Information & Communication Technology.
Inauguration of the Asia Regional Health Promotion Colloquium was held on 15th September 2014 at the Faculty of Applied Sciences. The chief guest for the event was Dr.Leel Gunasekara, Chancellor of the Rajarata University and other guests including Mr. Oben Oliva, Program Director of Plan Sri Lanka, Dr. Palitha Bandara, Provincial Director of Health Services of North Central Province, Dr. Ariyarathna, Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Adhikari Regional Director of Health Services Monaragala, Medical Officer of Health representing health promotion MOH areas where health promotion interventions and many officials and directors from government and non-government organizations, participated for this event together with Dr. Ananda Karunaratna, the Dean Faculty of Applied Sciences, Mr. Palihena, Dean of faculty of the Management Studies and other academic staff of Rejarata University.
