10th Annual Research Symposium of the Faculty of Agriculture, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka was held on 5th September, 2018. The inaugural session was commenced at 8.30 a.m. by lighting the oil lamp with the presence of many academics, researchers, executives of the university, non-academic staff and the students of the faculty, sponsors and other invitees. Dr. W.A.D. Nayananjalie, Coordinator of the 10th Annual Research Symposium welcomed the gathering. Dr. A.M.J.B. Adikari, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture expressed his thoughts on the event’s significance. Mr. P.M. Dharmathilake, Director (Technology and Research Development) representing the Ministry of Science, Technology, Research, Skills Development & Vocational Training and Kandyan Heritage also gave a speech on the roles of the Ministry in technology transfer and research developments. The keynote speaker, Dr. Herath Manthrithilake, Head, Sri Lanka Development Initiative International Water Management Institute delivered his speech on “Seeding a greener future” with sharing his lifetime experiences. The symposium proceedings was officially launched by offering the first copy to Dr. Manthrithilake by Editor-in-chief, Dr. M.G.T.S. Amarasekara. The secretory, Mr. W.V.V.R. Weerasinghe proposed the vote of thanks before winding up the inauguration.
The 10th Annual Research Symposium consisted with ninety oral presentations of eight parallel technical sessions. Presenters of 2012/2013 batch were evaluated by the panelists, experts in respective fields of study. For the first time in the Faculty of Agriculture, RUSL, there was a three minutes thesis (3MT) competition to enhance students’ presentation skills. At the end of the day, best presenter of each module was awarded with a medal and a certificate. At the same time, the best presenter, first and second runners up of the 3MT competition were awarded with certificates. The best presenter and people’s choice in the 3MT competition were awarded with cash prices. With many significance findings, the event was closed with concluding remarks of the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture.
